Today I just wanted to share with everyone how I clean my makeup brushes. I don't do this every day, but I try to give them a good, deep clean about once every month or so. I also try to clean my foundation & concealer brushes after each use with a brush cleaner spray which you can find a MAC, Sephora, or maybe even your nearest drug store, but it's not the same as giving them a deep clean to try and remove all the oil and products off the brushes.
I've been using this method for a while after first seeing this video by YouTube's beauty guru, Michelle Phan, you can redirect yourself by clicking here or just scroll down below to watch it!
So here is how it goes:
1. Make a mixture of olive oil & dish soap on a plate
2. Dip the dirty brushes in that mixture
3. Swirl it around in your palm to drive the products out of the brushes
4. Rinse the brush under warm water until the water dripping from it runs clear
5. For the best way to dry your brushes, keep them upside down with a brush guard on
Honestly, I just lay my brushes down on it's side on a paper towel and just roll it around after an hour or so.. I know this isn't really good for your brushes because the water and leak into the metal part of the brush and separate the bristles from the glue inside but I haven't had a chance to get the brush guards for all of my brushes yet... I've been cleaning my brushes this way for years and haven't had any problems with the bristles falling out or anything actually!
